Our story

From a trunk on Palomar to a food truck.

My mom went back to Sinaloa to grant one of my grandma's last wishes and came home with machaca. She made burritos, and I said, “Mom, what if we sell these?” We had $27. We started selling out of my trunk at Palomar and Highway 74 in Romoland.

The logo is covered in guamúchiles, the wild fruit from Guamúchil, Sinaloa, that kids string into bracelets by the river.

“Mayitas” is the nickname my grandfather gave my mom. While she sold at the corner, I drove burritos out to the warehouses on Harley Knox and sold my way back home. The ones we didn't sell, we gave away so people could try them. Two years later, from a trunk to an EZ-up to more corners, we got the food truck. We still hang the same Grab and Go banner. When someone tells us our food tastes like their mom's or grandma's cooking, that's why we do this.
